ARIGAMI - AR Origami

I created ARIGAMI inspired by The Paper Place, an innovative AR TikTok experience that brings origami instructions to life!

Defining the Problem

  • Do you ever find origami instructions to be confusing? Do you ever get frustrated and want to give up?


  • Origami instructions can be hard to follow along, especially if they’re in a different language or contain no words.


  • According to the origami-database.com, 45.3% of models available are of moderate difficulty, compared to only 17.2% of models being easy.

The Solution: AR

  • Augmented Reality can transform flat and static traditional 2D instructions into interactive 3D folding guides.


  • AR is used to overlay the physical environment with a digital twin of the desired origami figure. This allows users to follow the 3D animated step by step demonstration alongside their own origami figure


  • AR is used to animate the finished product, allowing users to use various tracking technologies to control the movement and behaviour of their figure

Visual Scripting

Visual scripting is a node based coding method used to create interactive filters for the TikTok platform. This is the logic used to create our interactive ARIGAMI filter and successfully upload it to the TikTok Effects database.

Our code mainly uses “screen image tap” which is an interactive event used to toggle OFF the visibility of the current step and toggle ON the visibility of the next step. We also use AR plane tracking to place the animation on the users flat surface

At the end we use target tracking to animate the completed ARIGAMI with an animated 3D model

Our filter logic uses “Screen Image Tap” to “Set Visibility” of the different steps and screens ON/OFF

How ARIGAMI Works
